Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical Installations

Overview

The qualification builds on the Level 2 Diploma by providing learners with more advanced knowledge and the related practical skills they will need to pursue a career in this occupational area. Learners will practice and be assessed in a secure environment on the installation and testing of electrical equipment in accordance with health and safety requirements, together with the relevant theory of electrical installation to the current edition of the wiring regulations. Learners will utilise BS 7671 and will also acquire relevant understanding of electrical science and principles.

Entry Requirements

The Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical installation is intended as a Technical Level qualification. It has been specifically designed for 16–19-year-old learners in full time education who have completed the Level 2 Intermediate Diploma in Electrical Installation as part of their 16-19 Study Programme and who are interested in pursuing a career as an electrician. The qualification may also be suitable for other learners, including adults, who are interested in electrical installation and/or are considering a career change.

Course Content

This course comprises six core mandatory units: 

  • Electrical installation design
  • Environmental technology systems
  • Electrical science and principles
  • Electrical installation craft
  • Inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Diagnosing and correcting faults

And one optional unit:

  • Overseeing and organising the work environment

Method of Assessment

Assessment includes externally set and marked examinations, centre marked assignments/practical tests, and a final cross-unit synoptic assessment.
